Het originele kunstwerk is gemaakt door Thees Rijkhold Meesters in 1976 door herinnering aan het dorp Oterdum dat moest wijken voor het industrieterrein Oosterhorn. In 2011 werd de hand gestolen en werd er een replica gemaakt door Mette Bus, niet van brons zoals het origineel maar kunststof. Deze laatste hand is hier gefotografeerd.
