De Krimstermolen is in 1904 gebouwd om de Oostelijke Bedumerpolder te bemalen. Hij was in gebruik tot 1969. In 1977 is hij verplaatst naar de huidige plek aan een bocht oftewel krimp in het Boterdiep ten noorden van Zuidwolde. Aan deze krimp heeft de molen zijn naam te danken. In 2011-2015 is hij gerestaureerd.
